About 500 Students Walk at Michigan Community College Graduation Ceremony
WASHINGTON, DC—On Saturday, May 1, Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) President and CEO J. Noah Brown spoke to graduates of Mott Community College (MCC) in Flint, Mich. Brown encouraged graduates to “be prepared to learn everything you can, find your passion in life, know what makes you happy, and be entrepreneurial in your outlook.” “Passion,” Brown said, “is a key ingredient for success and achievement.” He also encouraged graduates to move ahead in their lives with confidence, to “be an agent for change,” and to be lifelong advocates of community colleges, suggesting that they "help others understand community colleges put wings on dreams.”
“We are proud of our graduating class,” said MCC President Dr. M. Richard Shaink. “Mott Community College is an important lifeline to providing affordable, quality higher education and preparing students for the workforce.”
“Community colleges like MCC are absolutely vital in many areas, including Michigan,” said Brown. “Having grown up in this great state, I very much aware of Michigan’s economic struggles—and Mott Community College is helping to turn things around. The students I have spoken with here today have as much potential as any students I have met anywhere.”
“Both ACCT and MCC are committed to seeing community college students succeed, and the first step in making that happen is to graduate them with an associate’s degree,” said Celia Turner, Secretary-Treasurer of the ACCT Board of Directors and a member of the MCC Board of Trustees. “Here today, we have 500 prime examples of student success. We couldn’t be more proud.”
