ACCT’s Governance Leadership Institute is a unique opportunity for the president and a team of trustees to carve out quality time to work together on important and timely issues.

 

The Institute will focus on proven practices that strengthen the board/CEO relationship, help trustees accept responsibility for holding one another accountable, and provide tools and

techniques to the officers of the board.

Who Should Attend?

 

A must attend for current chairs, vice chairs and trustees in line to become chairs of the board. A team of trustees (three or more) and the president is most effective.

8-9 a.m. Overview and Preparation

9 a.m.-Noon Key Indicators of an Effective Board

  • Understanding leadership and group/team dynamics
  • The role of the leadership team of the board
  • Job description for the chair
  • Job description for committee chairs
  • Board/president relationship

Noon-1:30 p.m. Working Lunch

1:30-4 p.m.

  • Running effective meetings
  • Handling difficult and controversial issues
  • Code of ethics
  • Avoiding common traps

4-5 p.m. Establishing priorities for the board

8-9 a.m. Continental Breakfast

9 a.m.-Noon Trustees will have the option to select from two relevant tracks designed to address

current needs, such as:

  • Fundraising
  • Media Relations
  • Accreditation

Noon-1:30 p.m. Working Lunch

1:30-2:30 p.m. Putting it All Together and Next Steps

3-5 p.m. Group Work and Individual Consultation
