After Your Visit with Legislators
Send a thank you: Write a “thank you” to your Member of Congress, spelling out any areas of agreement you may have reached during your visit, and reinforcing the community college position on issues discussed. Ask your legislator to keep you informed of congressional action on those issues and remind the legislator that the staffs of the two national community college associations in Washington can serve as a local resource for them for additional information.
Send a press release: Inform your local paper about your visit to Washington to meet with your Member of Congress, and include the photo (if available) of the meeting.
Send a letter to the editor: Send your local paper a letter to the editor that advocates the issues you discussed with your Members of Congress. Point out the local significance of these issues to your college and your community.
