Community Funding Projects/Congressionally Directed Spending

Federal legislators brought back community funding projects, previously known as earmarks, after a 14 year hiatus in the 117th Congress. In fiscal year (FY) 2023, there were over 200 community funding projects which brought in over $240.8 million for community colleges. While FY24 saw a lower number of projects due to budgetary constraints and changes in eligible accounts, community colleges still got over 180 community project funding requests approved for over $190 million. There was an increase in FY26, which amounted to 220 community funding projects for community colleges, totaling to more than $294.2 million. The following chart outlines the community funding projects approved for community colleges from FY22 to FY26.
