Dr. Leyba retired from the Maricopa Community Colleges in 2008 as the Vice President for Corporate Development and Relations for the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation in Tempe, Arizona. He has served as an ACCT Search Consultant/Board Retreats/Board Self-Assessments since 2012.  Prior to his tenure at the Maricopa Community Colleges, Dr. Leyba served as a teacher, Principal, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent in K-12.

In higher education, Dr. Leyba has held a variety of executive roles, both permanent and temporary including Interim College President at Los Angeles Mission College, Los Angeles Community College District, CA, Interim Vice President of Instruction at West Campus, Pima Community College District, AZ, Acting Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor at Pima Community College, AZ, Vice President for Development and Community Relations at Mesa Community College, AZ, Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources  and Provost for the Maricopa Community College District, AZ. During Dr. Leyba’s tenure as Associate and Acting Vice Chancellor for Human Resources at the Maricopa Community Colleges, he was responsible for and personally conducted executive searches for the positions of President, Vice Chancellor, and Chancellor.

He has served as a Search and Retreat Consultant for ACCT since 2012 and has conducted searches/Board Retreats/Board Self-Assessments for the following colleges: Morton College, Rio Hondo College, Ventura Community College District, Los Angeles Community College District, Alamo Community College District, Riverside Community College District, Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College District, Chabot Las Positas Community College District and Columbia Gorge Community College. In addition, he provided support to ACCT for the California State Chancellor Search and the Long Beach City College President Search.

Dr. Leyba,  has also conducted presentations at Harper College, Elgin College, Saint Thomas Aquinas College, and San Diego Mesa College (CA), and annually presents at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities national conference, and many K-12 School Districts.

Dr. Leyba is a sought after speaker, guest lecturer, and consultant, and has served as a Distinguished Faculty and Mentor, both with the National Council for Black American Affairs, Community College Mid-Level Administrators Training Program, and the National Community College Hispanic Fellows. Both organizations are affiliate councils for AACC and prepare administrators of color to assume the Presidency. In addition, he also serves as the Director of the ALAS Superintendents Leadership Academy.

Dr. Leyba received a Doctor of Education in educational administration and supervision, a Masters of Education in educational administration and supervision and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history/secondary education from Arizona State University, Arizona.  He currently resides in Tempe, AZ, with his wife Debra Gomez, who is a retired K-12 Superintendent.
